The Smart Home of Today and Technology

The past two years have accelerated the adoption of smart technology and home entertainment within the comforts of our living room. With the majority of the population being restricted indoors and most working remotely, usual activities, places, and events that earlier broke the monotony of the daily routine were stripped away, with one’s own home becoming the modern-day comfort zone.

According to a Statista report, the Indian smart home market is expected to be around $6 billion by 2022, a two-fold increase from $3 billion estimated in 2020. Globally, this number is expected to reach $53.45 billion by 2022. This is due to the higher acceptance for home appliances or devices that are smart, connected, energy efficient. With an increasing focus on wellness and improving lifestyle want to enhance their homes with smart products that make their chaotic routines interesting and easy. Modern-day consumers are looking at upgrading their homes with devices that provide them with a unique experience every time they say, “Hi! Show me something new today.”

To meet the evolving needs of the customers, LG through its cutting-edge appliances, air solutions and home entertainment devices created a modern-day smart home for better-connected living. Make your tweets more engaging with these tips to add content to your Tweets

Twitter is what’s happening in the world and what people are conversing about. Standing out in the crowd, means making conversations more interesting through the use of Twitter’s various tools and products. Want to jump on the Twitter pro bandwagon? Here are some tips you can adopt to make your Tweets stand out. You can thank us later (on Twitter of course).

  • Add photos or GIFs to your Tweets
Take a cue from Virat Kohli (@imVkohli), click the photo icon from the Tweet compose box to upload a photo or GIF from your phone or computer. You can add up to four photos in your Tweet.

If Tweeting from the Twitter app, you can enhance the pictures - apply a filter, crop an image and add stickers. Click the Tweet button to post to your profile.

  • Share and watch videos on Twitter
There are two ways to share videos on Twitter: You can either record a video by simply tapping and holding down the capture icon, or you can  import/upload a video (less than 02:20 duration) saved on your phone or desktop. All the videos that you see, like and engage with on Twitter have been uploaded using either of these steps. On that note, this video from Anushka Sharma (@AnushkaSharma) will make your day:

  • Add an interesting link to a Tweet (and don’t worry about the character count!)
You can paste a URL of any length into the Tweet compose box and it will automatically get shortened to a maximum of 23 characters.
After pasting the link, click the Tweet button to post the Tweet to your timeline. This is  what it will look like:

Learn from the best, here’s an example of how @SrBachchan does it:

  • Go live with Twitter
The euphoria of attending a concert, the joy of witnessing your friend go down the aisle and the pride of winning an award – some things are best expressed in real time, right? With Twitter, you can have your followers be a part of your special moments. Just go live through video and show them what you’re up to, instead of describing it to them. All you need to do is, swipe left post opening the camera icon in the Tweet compose box. This will allow you to select the live mode.
Just the way Comicstaan live streamed their #BlueCarpetScreening with our favourite internet celebs.

  • Add fun captions on your photos

While adding photos to your Tweets, you can choose to write a caption to describe the image for the visually impaired, while at the same time, making your Tweet more engaging. To insert a caption, click on ‘add description’ and type out  your description in the given space. If you do not get the option to set image descriptions automatically, you can follow these simple steps to turn them on in your settings. Go to the Settings option in your profile, tap on ‘Accessibility’ and then click to opt for ‘Compose Image Descriptions’.
A description can be added to each image in a Tweet but not videos and GIFs.
So be creative and win your followers with the coolest Tweets!

How AI and Machine learning helps in up skilling to better career opportunities

There are at least two clear trends that show a demand-supply mismatch in tech jobs in cutting-edge IT fields such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. One is via industry predictions that estimate growth in the AI market from USD 21.46 billion to USD 190.61 billion between 2018 and 2025. Year on year growth is projected to be an impressive 36.62% during the same period. The second trend is more subtle. Big Indian IT firms in the US are reportedly ‘hoarding’ employees in these 2 fields as they foresee a shortage in skilled experts. They also fear a corresponding rise in the cost of hiring employees for tech contracts they have bagged for the future.
How are AI & Machine Learning being used in Industry?
Unlike the exaggerated robots of the 2001 Steven Spielberg movie of the same name, Artificial Intelligence (AI) in reality is tamer. AI is understood to mean ways of making computers, computer-controlled robots or program think intelligently mimicking the manner in which humans think intelligently. A computer program with AI can use can solve generic problems it is programmed to instead of just specific ones. They can accommodate new modifications to input without breaking structure. Traditional programmers would have to sort, sift and debug thousands of lines of code to make modifications.
AI finds applications in strategy games such as chess or poker where advance moves are determined by heuristic logic, natural language processing, virtual assistant technology, image and speech recognition and automated robotics. General AI systems which can solve any given problem are rare. Insurance and banking organizations regularly use AI to monitor fraud. Marketers use AI every time you shop online to gather your browsing habits and predict what you are most likely to buy. They will then advertise those products through pop-ups and logos. Self-driving cars, auto-pilot modes and smart homes using sensors all rely on AI and affect daily lives of consumers.
There is also a difference between AI and Machine Learning (ML) although a number of articles on the web club them together or use them interchangeably. “ML is the study of computer algorithms that improve automatically through experience” according to Tom Mitchell of Carnegie Mellon University. It is simply one of the ways we use to achieve AI or something closer.
How can you acquire AI & ML skills?
By some estimates, AI will create nearly 2.3 million jobs by next year. It might also make 1.7 million jobs obsolete but those would need to be replaced by 0.5 million new jobs. Nearly all forms of enterprise software, factory automation, transport and other industries are increasingly using AI-based interfaces in their daily operation. In fact, by 2030, AI may end up offering USD 15.7 trillion to the global economy.
Mathematical and programming skills are central to acquiring competency in this field. However, for seasoned tech professionals, it is also quite important to develop excellent communication skills. An understanding of how business works and the common processes used in day-to-day operations will help you better utilize your core competencies to improve organizational workflows.
Core Competencies required in AI & ML
For complete beginners, programming using C++ is a mandatory requirement. Also necessary is an understanding of how algorithms are created and executed.
Typically, knowledge and expertise in Bayesian networks, neural networks, cognitive science theory, engineering, physics, robotics, undergraduate algebra, calculus, statistics and probability are very essential to hone your talents in ML.
Graduates in Computer Science need only supplement their knowledge of math and computing with a specialized course in AI & ML.
India Best Placed to exploit AI opportunities
Analysis of professional networking site Linkedin.com has shown that India is the third best-placed economy after the US and China to crack AI jobs and careers with high penetration of AI awareness. AI is a big part of investments into start-ups at an estimated by private players alone in 2016.
Among the more exciting opportunities one can expect in 2019 is the rising application of AI in healthcare to detect and diagnose health issues in individuals. Smart infrastructure to help balance rapid growth in urban centers in India is also an option being explored by the government. B. Tech programs now mandatorily have AI, IoT, Machine Learning and some other essential components of emerging technologies. However, constant changes in this dynamic field have made it mandatory for professionals to keep up skilling via a noted institution to remain relevant and job-worthy.

Inception of sub brands, who is the winner: You, Me or We

Smartphone market is a different world now from what it used to be in the good old days (read Nokia glory days). We had fewer number of players in market, devices were priced with relatively greater distance between each other, where each feature could cost you a couple of thousand rupees extra. You need just a calling phone you can get it for 4000 Rs, you need FM as well then it will be for Rs 5500/- , oh you want color screen too then pay 7500 Rs, and so on for MP3 player, Camera, touch screen etc. On top of that the names of devices were similar to what we have for breeds of crops seed. 3300, 6600, N-32 were the likes of today's One Plus6, iPhone X, Honor 7x etc.

The Disruption

Come Apple and witness the disruption in the market at level which was never seen before, not even when Martin Cooper made the first call to his rival with the first mobile phone he invented (that paved the way for today's smartphones, but landlines were in use for more than 3 decades after this invention).  Apple's iPhone changed the way we looked at a phone, we had seen most of the things earlier as well, like we have seen internet working on Nokia phones, music on Sony Ericsson or Motorola devices, Cameras, touch screen all were already explored areas, but iPhone brought them all into one device with exceptional user interface.

"while Apple was seen as a status symbol, Android's were the necessity to keep up with the pace."

Google forayed soon into the Arena and came up with its own Android Operating System, propagated to masses by open partnerships with minus Apple manufacturers i.e. Sony, Samsung, LG, HTC etc.  Android was gaining traction in countries like ours while Apple was seen as a status symbol, Androids were the necessity to keep up with the pace.

The Sub-Brand strategy

Un fortunately Nokia missed this bus and downfall started for the company as more and more consumers who were looking for features similar to that of an iPhone but were low on budget soon made these companies larger than they would have ever thought few years back. However, it was not only Nokia who faced the wrath of iOS and Android. Other big names in the industry like Huawei, Motorola and Blackberry(One of the last to kneel down to Android against their own OS) were also finding it difficult to cope up with the change.

Well without any doubt Samsung understood the dynamics better than anyone else, they had their own OS for smartphones running on touch screen devices in 2010, they had the Project Tizen on the way to counter Android and iOS. Yet they didn't missed the business opportunity which Google's Android presented in front of them. They continued their work and pioneered the Android devices for different price segments, flagships to mid range device it was all there in Samsung's portfolio and it definitely made a dent in Apple's aspirations and market share atleast in India.

"It leads to a situation where OPPO has to come up with a sub brand RealMe and to counter that , the 'Real' Mi had to respond with "Real You". Meanwhile the 'Real' YU is not seen from a long time and our very own "Sharma G ka ladka" is in hibernate mode. "

The start of sub brands

The unexpected hero of the time was not Samsung, instead it was our very own Micromax (lost now a days), relatively unknown Indian brand who worked hard to get feature phones on low budget but a differentiated experience (qwerty phone, phones with lights, 30 day battery life phones etc). Micromax sponsored a few cricket tournaments ( a strategy which would be later adopted by OPPO, Vivo, Lava, Intex ) and became known to the cricket crazy nation in no time. Soon it started doing to Samsung, what Samsung did to Apple, i.e. provided higher specification phones at much lower price and this time both the competitors had the same OS as well. Micromax smartly played it with Canvas Series. All phones were Canvas where Micromax would draw an art piece and gradually it was the top smartphone brand in India by market share. For me it was deliberate attempt to distance itself from the earlier feature phones (known as chinese phones without reference to brand among common people), and start a fresh in a promising smartphone market. To start from a servicing company and becoming number 1 smartphone seller in country as big as India is something to proud of and would be there in Company's history in golden letters.

Similarly while some of the above said brands sticked  to their original identity, others like ASUS had different strategy. ASUS launched its new smartphones Zenfone 5, Zenfone 4 and Zenfone 6 in 2014. These devices were better than competitor's devices and priced much lower. The Zenfone sub brand worked wonders for ASUS, in last 4 years ASUS has launched numerous devices under Zenfone brand and has been successful with most of these devices in market. Courtsey upgrading themselves as per market and consumer feedback.

The strategy adopted by ASUS or Micromax wasn't the most innovative or new in market. Nokia had its fair of success with its Xpress Music series, N-series, E-series etc phones. Motorola had done well with Yuva series, Sony had made well with walkman series. But this was different in terms of devotion, marketing, engineering and pretty much all aspects of the inception to market cycle of the devices. Unlike other examples given above there was no parallel series worked upon all the focus was on Zenfone series, to make it big in market share and consumer choice.

In parallel universe the decades old pioneer in telecom industry from China, Huawei also launched its sub brand Honor somewhere around 2011 in China and encouraged by its success back at home the subrand was expanded to around 74 countries in 2015 including India. Xiaomi was already a big name in China and entered India in 2014.

Xiaomi did much damage to brands which were popular in India smartphone market, Micromax simply lost the race and couldn't compete with further low priced devices but high on quality at that price level. The charismatic Hugo Barra led Xiaomi had made itself popular among fans in India. The flash sales were more grand even than the Moto G and Moto E (first editions).

Counter sub brands

Micromax's Canvas was not generating any buzz or interest in the market. It was then, when Rahul Sharma came up with an exciting (but not bug free) device under a whole new sub brand to counter Xiaomi's Mi. While Xiomi's Mi is pronounced as 'me' , Micromax came with 'YU' the new sub brand which was supposed to break all the records, designed for the fans , by the fans. This was directly to compete with Xiaomi's Mi and both the brands claimed to have consumers in focus by looking at them as first person or second person. The counter strategy initially worked better than it was expected by some of our fellow bloggers in community, but that didn't lasted long due to lack of updates, quality and service issues in the devices from YU.

The irony

Here today we are in 2018, and OPPO launched its sub brand RealMe which offered really good devices for much lesser price. The brand which led to creation of counter sub brands in first place, i.e. Mi Came up with counter device and promoted it to be #RealYou device. CEO of Real Me , Mr. Madhav Sheth was quick to remind them that they had already registered the trademark "Real You" as well.

It leads to a situation where OPPO has to come up with a sub brand RealMe and to counter that , the 'Real' Mi had to respond with "Real You". Meanwhile the 'Real' YU is not seen from a long time and our very own "Sharma G ka ladka" is in hibernate mode. Interesting turn of events, marketing games and devices we are witnessing in this sphere. I hope in this game of You and Me, its us or 'We' the consumers who win in the end.

Huawei Honor's rising as one of fastest Growing smartphone brand in India

Honor the sub brand from Huawei no longer needs introduction in smartphones world. Honor has made a name for itself in mid-range priced devices. The devices from the brand has brought premium quality devices with latest innovations to Indian market across the price spectrum. With innovative and best in segment products like Honor 7X, Honor View 10, Honor 9 Lite; Honor has shown momentum and growth in the India market.

Huawei witnessed a massive overall growth of 165% in CY 2017 as per Counterpoint, Q4 2017 report. While Huawei focused on wearable devices, it was Honor that played an instrumental role in brand building, and launched global best sellers that became India best sellers. The budget bestseller smartphone, Honor 7X was pivotal in the growth of the brand towards Q4, 2017.

Further, the launch of Honor View 10 and Honor 9 Lite has paved the way for greater recognition of the brand in India, thereby, reinforcing its global leadership. Honor 9 Lite has been a sold out all four times on Flipkart making it one of the most popular Honor smartphone to date.

We talked earlier about rise of OPPO as one of top brands globally, Honor seems to have followed the suite as well as learnt from the mistake of former. OPPO which has seen a phenomenal rise in its market share in 2016, is now slipping from its place. One of the reason for this drop is said to be lack of options in different price segment. Honor has filled this gap with its balanced distribution of devices from Honor6x to Honor View10

Another important factor for this rise in country is company's commitment to provide India with Global Best Price which is evident from one of latest launch Honor View 10 which is priced at Rs 29,999/- while it was launched for Euro 499 in European markets which turns out to be around INR 38,000/- .

Honor is the first smartphone brand in India to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven smartphone, Honor View 10 at very pocket friendly cost, in line with brand’s commitment towards the Indian market. The launch of Honor View 10 marked the beginning of a new AI era, making consumers shift from the smartphones to “Intelligent phones. The latest offerings from Honor, Honor 9 Lite and Honor 7X have reshaped the budget smartphone category in the Indian smartphone market, owing to competitive hardware and software features, and have been termed as best budget smartphones by media critics.

Huawei, well known for its excellent R&D, brings out the best innovations in every offering. It invents consumer-centric technology that not only enhances the overall performance of the device but also creates brand loyalty amongst its consumers. Honor has been on a high success streak in 2017 with in-house premium technology and constant innovation.

While there is a lot of stress on innovation and listening to voice of customers , marketing team of Honor has also done commendable job with organizing events in different cities, educating the dealers, partnering with e-retailers etc to keep the ball rolling. The man we know behind all this is Mr P Sanjeev, VP Sales, Huawei Consumer Business group. The team deserves a pat on back to have achieve staggering growth in neck to neck competition.

In one of the event, the team has announced its ambition to capture 10% of smartphone market share in India by 2019, the task might look tough seeing number of brands (competitive) in the arena. However, the growth rate achieved by Honor has left behind the likes of Xiaomi and OPPO makes it look achievable if they manage to be on the right track and get ahead of competition in making use of available technology if not innovate on its own for all devices.

Visual Math Improves Math Performance

With the advancement of technology and education, the need to integrate both of them has been realized, especially for the subject involving numerous complicated concepts. One of the most crucial advancements in education includes implementation of visualization to enhance the understanding of students and help them learn more effectively.

Mathematics is one of the most complicated subjects with several unsolved mysteries involving numbers. The subject of maths is full of numbers, variables and proofs which become extremely difficult to understand if one is inattentive and lacks proper visualization of the concepts.

The following are the ways in which visual mathematics provides better understanding and proves better from the traditional methods of learning:

(i) Study through video lectures: A scientific study states that our mind has a better understanding and retaining power to the video lectures (or visual and audio signals). Students can understand the concepts easily as it focuses on making things understandable with real-life examples. Topics like probability, calculus, differentiation and other difficult topics can be easily explained through 3D video lectures which seem to be really difficult while studying through the textbook.

(ii) Time-saving: We all know that everyone has a different pace of learning. In a classroom, one can understand the topic in one go whereas another student might be dreaming about his football game and could not understand things even at the third time. Thus, this could be a time-consuming process. Through visual technique, anyone can understand things in one go. Also, it saves time as video lectures can cover the topics in few minutes whereas the traditional method takes around 3-4 hours.

(iii) Interesting lectures: It is a common problem with most of the students that they find their lectures to be boring, which is why they cannot catch up the concepts. The visual learning includes study through computers/laptops or projectors which enhance the interest of the students that ultimately lead to better understanding.

(iv) Understanding through real-life application: It is a well-known fact that concepts can be understood in a better manner by relating them to the real world. This technique would also help in retaining the concepts for a prolonged duration. Consider, for example, the topic like vectors is important in determining the position of an object with respect to any reference point which is used in Google maps. Another example is probability, which has real-life application in weather forecasting. All these techniques visually explain the concepts to the students to understand the things in a better manner.

All these techniques are helpful in clearing the concepts of the students about the topics which require in-depth understanding rather than mugging up. Therefore, visualization plays a key role in improving the performance of the students at an unreasonable rate.

Top 10 reasons the ZenFone AR is the next big thing

The ASUS ZenFone AR is built from the ground up for augmented reality. There’s a lot to love about this cutting-edge smartphone, but let’s run down the biggest reasons why you should consider picking one up.

1. Tango Technology - Augmented Reality

Tango AR
Tango is the augmented reality system by Google which marries depth-sensing and motion-tracking camera technology. With the right apps, virtual objects can inhabit the space around you in fun, informative, and creative ways. For example, you could size up furniture for your living room, or chase monsters through your kitchen. It’s a brand new world of possibilities with augmented reality and Tango.

2. Daydream Technology - Virtual Reality

VR with Daydream view support
The ZenFone AR is the first Android phone to include both Tango and Daydream support in the same device. With the Daydream View headset, you can enjoy your own personal cinema filling your whole field of view, or dive into immersive games with the help of the included controller. The growing library of Daydream apps means you’ll always have new experiences right around the corner.

3. Next-generation camera

While the TriCam system combines every technology required for fluid virtual reality and augmented reality, the primary 23 megapixel camera can take some incredible shots. It has a large f/2.0 aperture, perfect for shooting in low-light. It can capture video in razor-sharp 4K, complete with optical and electronic image stabilization.

4.       Lightning-fast autofocus

ASUS has been carefully refining its autofocus system over the course of several generations. TriTech consists of three mechanisms working seamlessly with one another. First, there’s traditional object-tracking focus. Then, there’s laser autofocus, which can detect the distance of subjects out to 1.5 meters, even in low light. Finally, phase detection autofocus is specialized at capturing subjects in motion. All of that comes together for a lock in under 0.03 seconds.

5.       Incredible processing power

Thanks to the custom-tailored Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, the ZenFone AR is able to construct vibrant 3D worlds on the fly. This requires not only an impressive amount of sheer processing power power, but energy efficiency, too. We are working with a smartphone, after all, which needs to be able to carry on with usual functions the rest of the day.

 6.       Mind-blowing sound

The finely tuned SonicMaster 3.0 engine produces premium audio in any circumstance. A new 5-magnet speaker design can churn out music louder than ever without distorting or damaging the hardware. Advanced signal processing by way of the NXP Smart AMP can handle audio at up to four times CD quality. Whether you’re in VR, or just relaxing with some tunes, the ZenFone AR will not disappoint.

7.       A beautiful display

When using the ZenFone AR with the Daydream View headset, the screen will be quite close to your eyes. ASUS has made this display exceptionally sharp to maximize immersion. At 5.7 inches, your full field of view will be taken over. The Super AMOLED 2560 x 1440 WQHD screen will produce details at the sharpest definition and with the deepest colors.

8.       Premium construction

The ZenFone AR pushes boundaries, and it feels built for the task. With a burnished leather rear and precision-milled metal frame, you’ll enjoy a true feeling of luxury every time you take the ZenFone AR out of your pocket. During day-to-day use, the Gorilla Glass 4 cover will amply protect the screen. Overall, the fine craftsmanship at play will ensure this phone ages gracefully.

9.       Biggest RAM ever in a smartphone

The ZenFone AR manages to pack in 8 GB of RAM. You can read more about how RAM works and why it’s important here, but the bottom line is that having 8 GB of it in the ZenFone AR ensures it will be able to handle intensive processing tasks of any kind, not just those that have to do with augmented reality and virtual reality.

10.   Cutting edge uses of AR technology
