Micromax had been away from the limelight from quite a long time, once there was a time when every month or even fortnight you will hear a new phone launched from Micromax there were lot of advertisements, sponsorship and other publicity.  While some predicted that Chinese competitors had got better of it, some other analysts were hopeful that Micromax will return with a bang in smartphone market. It seems that with the launch of Dual 5 the company has hit the right chord. We must say, that we have spent just a few minutes with the device but we are impressed with the end product, I believe you will also agree with us after getting to know about the device. So let's have a look at the price, specifications and features of the phone.

Micromax Set to launch its first Dual Camera smartphone Dual 5 tomorrow

We discussed in our earlier posts how Dual Camera is a so called tech revolution in smartphone industry that every other brand is launching atleast one of the product with dual camera setup to be in the game. Most recently OPPO launched OPPO F3 Plus with Dual Selfie camera and upped the ante, though a bit late but Micromax determined to catch up with the Chinese OEMs is all set to unveil its very own first smartphone with a dual Camera.

Dual5 Launch CD
The Coundown has begun!
Micromax is teasing with the about the new device from quite some time and it is very clear that this device sports dual cameras.

Apart from the obvious dual camera setup not much details are disclosed by the company. However, few other details are derived from a leaked image on Chinese social media platform weibo. As per reports the Dual 5 will be powered by 1.5 GHz Octa core Mediatek MT6750T processor combined with 3 GB RAM. The phone is said to packed with a decent graphics processor and 32 GB memory on board. The phone sports a 5.5 inch HD  display.

The dual camera setup at rear includes a 13 MP and another 5 MP camera, while on the front as well it is said to be sporting a 5 MP camera. For the first time Micromax seems to have got the right software and hardware combination to come with a balanced product which can be concluded by the accounts of Nimish Dubey from TechPP and Bharat Nagpal from iGyaan.

Whatever may be the exact specifications but after a long time Micromax seems to have appeared with the right product in the market. However, the road is not easy as lately the homegrown brand has seen a fierce competition from its Chinese counterparts in last one year. As it is known, we are hoping that Micromax will price it aggressively in market. We are really excited for tomorrow's launch and if you are equally excited as we are, follow us on our social pages and get all the updates related to the product.

Rahul Sharma launches YU Yunicorn

The YU Yunicorn was launched today in an event held in Delhi, where tech media, bloggers and Fans were assembled to witness the launch. Rahul Sharma, Co-Founder Micromax as usual tool up the stage but shocked everyone with his first slide which read Rs 19,999/- . The presentation than had its own elements of hardware, software and services embedded in the device Operating System which is developed by Bangalore Team and named Android on Steroids (AOS) , however as expected there was some drama involved in revealing the actual price of the phone which is Rs12,999/- for first month and after that it will be available for a price tag of Rs 13,499/- . Registrations are open for the first sales which will happen on June 7, 2016 2 PM onward. On first day of sales SBI card holders will get additional cashback of 10% making effective price for that one day as 11,700/-. As the event promised we have also revealed the price first and now let's talk about the device. Yunicorn will be made available on offline channels as well along with the Online partner Flipkart.

YU Yunicorn runs on a Helio P10 octacore processor from MediaTek which is supported by 4GB of RAM well this combination alone makes any smartphone capable of handling heaviest of tasks smoothly, here in Yunicorn the company has worked very well on its version of Android which is based on Android Lollipop 5.1 and named "Android on Steroids". The custom OS is very close to stock Android and surprisingly free from Bloatware. However YU Televentures has done a great job in integrating services of their partners or acquired organisations very well into the Around YU 2.0 , with Around YU you can access to various shopping portals, book cab on Ola and Uber (you can compare the prices instantly), order food and lot more without even installing a single app on your smartphone. Well that's some innovation for me from the company which really solves the problem of unnecessarily keeping less used applications on the device all the time.

Yu Yunicorn

On Camera department, the phone comes with a 13 MP rear camera, and 5 MP front camera in our first impressions we found both the cameras to be responsive and rendering good quality images however the test was done in well lit conditions. The Full HD 5.5 inch display renders color perfectly and is more accurate then ever for a YU device. The smartphone also comes with a Finger print sensor on the front which is claimed to work in as fast as 0.2 seconds. On storage front the phone comes with 32 GB internal memory and can be further expanded by 128 GB via microSD cards. Refreshed Micromax 3.0 launches flagship devices Canvas 6 and Canvas 6 Pro, promises 15+ other devices launch soon

Micromax is back in the news after months of silence and this time it has return with a bang. Today was one hell of a day for the company, to begin with it all started with the new tagline under the refreshed version of the company dubbed as Micromax 3.0 , whose vision and goal statement is aligned in becoming one of five top global brands, top devices and services company (yes you read it right, Micromax has been investing heavily in many of the startups and this seems to be the right time to leverage their expertise and collaborate with them.), the company also aims to manufacture its devices 100%  in India which stands at 60% currently.

The new version of the company also needs a new punch line isn't it? So we also have a new punch line for the brand which is "Nuts: Guts: Glory" replacing the older "Nothing like Anything". If that was not enough already, a brand new logo ( a slightly modified one from the previous) was also launched and displayed to the media in one of the most dramatic ways , ah! I almost forgot to add the four founders of the Micromax were present on the stage to unveil the new logo, which is ofcourse a very rare event for not only media but also for the employees of Micromax itself which can be testified by the statement made by Mr. Shubhajit Sen as he said, "This is a very special moment for us, as in my career at Micromax I have rarely seen all four founders together". Well we have something cooking in our minds to tell you about it, but let's leave it for some other time for now.

Micromax Founders From L-R Sumeet Kumar, Rajesh Agarwal, Vikas Jain and Rahul Sharma

Well, the statement was made at start of the event that today they will be launching around 20 products which will include 15 smartphones , and other devices includes tablets and LED TVs. However to our relief, today's event was only about what we have discussed above and the next flagship smartphones from Micromax, the Canvas 6 and Canvas 6 Pro.

Quick glance at Canvas 6 and Canvas 6 Pro specifications

Both the smartphones are priced at same price which is INR 13,999/- , Canvas 6 is the first device from Micromax to sport a finger print sensor and full metal unibody design. The Canvas 6 runs on Octa core processor coupled with 3 GB of RAM and comes with 5.5 inch Full HD display, whereas the Canvas 6 Pro does not have any finger print sensor but comes with 4GB of RAM and runs on Helio X10 true octacore 64 bit processor from Mediatek, The Canvas 6 Pro comes with plastic body and has only 16 GB internal storage as compared to 32 GB internal memory of the Canvas 6.  Both the devices comes with a 13 MP rear shooter , however Canvas 6 has 8 MP camera at the front while Canvas 6 Pro comes with 5 MP front camera.performance beast with a 4G RAM and also the first Indian smartphone to run Helio processor. Created with an insight that an average consumer spends about 15 seconds to pull out the first level of information and 12-14 taps to get to the information, the new personal assistant ‘AROUND’ provides a seamless experience that simplifies and saves a user time and effort to switch between plethora of apps.

With 14 million CRTs in the market, Micromax is looking at making the consumers leap frog to LED TVs to provide better, sharper, smarter cinematic experience in every household. Last year Micromax grew its LED business by 60% and grew 3 times faster than the category. With the aim to constantly bring alive the best experience and connectivity through our multiple screens, Micromax gave sneak preview of its new range of Smart LED TVs- 50inch and 40inch.

Micromax will sell these devices for the first time on its own e-store, you can pre-book the devices from here by paying Rs 1000/- , devices will be available from 20th April.

YU Yunique Features, specifications and Review

YU Televentures recently launched its 4th device in row the YU Yunique. Yu Yunique is company's effort to bring 4G device at an affordable price. The device is said to be world's most affordable 4G smartphone with HD screen. Other than this the device brings memories of Canvas Spark back to the mind with  its rest of the configuration and price tag of Rs 4999/-. The device runs on a quad core processor however we were expecting an octa core device from YU before launch event as octa core mobile prices are dropping in the market but at this price point it's  fine to be quad core.

"India is at the tipping point of digital revolution and we expect 4G technology to push internet usage to an unprecedented level." - Rahul Sharma, Founder Yu Televentures
Yu Yunique

Yunique runs on 64 bit Snadpdragon 410 quad core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz with Adreno 306 for graphics, sports 4.7 inch HD IPS  display with a pixel density of 312 ppi which is really impressive at this price point. The smartphone comes with 1 GB RAM and 8 GB ROM which can be further expanded upto 32 GB using micro SD card. Yunique supports dual sim and is powered by 2000 mAh battery to last the day.

On camera side, the device comes with a 8 MP rear auto focus camera and 2 MP camera on front. The device runs on Android 5.1 lollipop unlike its predecessors from YU which comes preloaded with Cyanogen OS. The company is giving option to its users to download and install Cyanogen OS if they want to , which is a welcome move as Cyanogen OS is considered to be a OS designed for geeks and many buyers of Yunique would like to stay with stock Android.

Another trend has been broken this time for YU as Yunique will be available exclusively on Snapdeal, whereas previous phones from the company were exclusive to Amazon India.

Design:

If you are familiar with Yuphoria the device touted as "Miracle in metal" by YU, then you just strip it of the metal and replace it with black plastic and matte finish. The Yunique follows the symmetrical design style of Yuphoria where in the audio jack at top, the earpiece and mic on the front and usb charging slot at the bottom all are in straight line placed at the center of the width. The left is void of any buttons and right side houses volume up, power and volume down buttons in same order as written.

Yunique Side View

Front side is dominated by 4.7 inch HD IPS display, On top there is a ear piece situated at center and just below that you can see the YU branding , left side houses the front 2 MP camera and an array of sensors is placed nearby. On bottom there is no physical or capacitive button and just a microphone at the edge of the front side.

Turning back the device you first thing you will notice is the unique Saturn ring design which houses a camera at the centre and LED flash light fitted on the rings. Moving down further near bottom there is YU branding below which you can see the speaker grill. Removing the plastic cover reveals two SIM card slots, and a micro SD card slot, a 2000 mAh battery. The battery is not removable though.

Performance:

The mobile does well in terms of performance, specially when we look at the price point. Multitasking capabilities of phone are good, we ran Antutu Benchmark test on the phone using v5.7.1 and got an overall score of 19105. The score looks good for average user, the device was able to handle normal usage games but we doubt the same would happen in case of resource extensive games such as Asphault 8.

Battery did lasted around 15 hours with a run of Antutu benchmark, around half an hour of video playback, few shots with camera. The camera of the device is just average and don't expect any great quality images especially in low lights same goes for front camera. One other issue we observed with the unit we got was heating problem, the device is getting heated very quickly while normal usage.

Verdict:

YU Yunique is today, what Micromax Canvas Spark was in market 4 months back. The device packs decent hardware for the price tag of Rs 4,999/- but failed to impress us as Canvas Spark did (blame it to camera and thicker edges). So, if your budget is around 4,999/- and you are sure you want to go for 4G connectivity then you don't have any better option as of now in the market otherwise Canvas Spark is still available online.
