The Mid Range Fight: Vivo V5 Vs Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime

Chinese handset maker Vivo recently launched the Vivo V5 in India. It’s basically a phone which is entirely targeted at selfie enthusiast. In case you don’t know, let us tell you that it comes equipped with a whopping 20-megapixel front-facing camera, which is highest in the market at this point. We are going to compare the Vivo V5 with the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime, which is priced almost similar as the Vivo V5. So let’s find out whether it’s a win-win situation for both of them or not.

Vs
Vivo V5----Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime

Build & Design:

In terms of the design and looks, the Vivo flaunts a metal unibody construction whereas the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime also crafted in all metal body. So, we can easily put it this way: Both the devices feel premium and comfortable to hold. In spite of that, the Vivo V5 is comparatively slimmer and lighter than the Galaxy J7 Prime.

Both the phones sport a bigger 5.5-inch display, but it’s also worth that the display size is not everything. It’s also about the display resolution which plays a major role in the decision-making process. This is where Samsung leads the flight as it features a 1080p Full HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection as opposed to the 720p HD on the Vivo V5 having no screen protection at all.

Performance:

Moving on, powering the Vivo V5 is MediaTek MT6750 processor whereas what powers the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime is Exynos 7870 processor. Here, the Exynos 7870 easily outranks the likes of MediaTek. However, the Vivo V5 packs  in 4GB of RAM whereas the Galaxy J7 Prime has a 3GB RAM running inside.

Camera:

Both, the Vivo V5 and Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime houses a 13-megapixel rear camera. Nevertheless, when it comes to taking selfies, it’s the Vivo V5 which is playing on the front foot. Even in terms of features and recording abilities, the Vivo V5 is way ahead than its competitor. It’s attributed to the Galaxy J7 Prime’s lack of 4K video recording support.

As far as the memory is concerned, the Vivo V5 comes with 32GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. Samsung, on the other side, is partially on the downside with 16GB of storage. Even though Samsung phone has a lesser storage in comparison with the Vivo phone, it supports storage expandability up to 256GB. Finally, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime has a bigger 3300mAh battery as opposed to 3000mAh on the Vivo V5.

Conclusion:

Looking at this comparison, one thing is primarily visible that there is no clear winner here. If your requirement is for a good selfie phone, then you should straightaway consider the Vivo V5. However, if your need a phone with overall balanced set of specifications at best available price, then Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime is a good option.

Will Exploding Phones Make Manufacturers Life More Difficult?

Smartphones are fascinating! They are more powerful than an average computer 10 yrs back. The number of users across the globe with a smartphone far exceeds any other computer & this number is fast increasing. Add to that the smart watches that some of us wear on our wrists and had the Google Glass gone as expected, we would be wearing eye ware with a battery and OS as well.

The recent case of Samsung’s Note 7 exploding and leading to subsequent recall + billions in write down is a wake up call for consumer companies. While largely a laptop or phone powered by a rechargeable battery is considered very safe, in this age of social media with billions of connected users, every incident gets magnified. It takes 5 secs to make news by tweeting something and we wouldn’t always know if the cause was a manufacturing defect or faulty accessory. The Note 7 has changed consumer perception about exploding gadgets forever. And this wasn’t even a mid range or low range offering (something like the Galaxy J7 Prime would have caused lesser financial and perception damage).

Google Trends
Google already shows a spike in users interested in phones exploding. But that’s hardly the story. Users have always been worried about their phones heating. One of the most popular questions asked online when researching a mobile phone is about “heating issues”. Imagine what happens when you mix the heating paranoia to exploding news that keeps popping up.

Manufactures already have a tough task to balance a portable device that competes on slimness & weight, GPU & CPU capability, RAM, Battery life and display size & density. These are conflicting goals with a huge affect on how many chips are crammed into the tiny plastic or metal housing in your hands. If gone wrong, possibly billions of users are carrying a portable bomb in their pocket or wrist. Of course that’s a far stretched fear, but the Note 7 incident surely makes consumers more worried and that doesn’t help any other smartphone manufacturer in the long run.

Online vs In Store shopping scene in India

Ecommerce was a buzzword few years back, everyone was excited about the possibility of buying things online without having to even get down from bed and at the same time there was a doubt about the whole process from quality to delivery and so on. Looking back at that time we have progressed a lot in this journey though everyone is not at same pace but still the journey has begun and its proving to be successful in country like ours so far. In this post we will discuss a few points about Online vs In store shopping.

Which one do you prefer?
  • Convenience: Online shopping offers you the convenient option of selecting your favorite shirt or phone or even a luxury yacht (yes, you can check it out on Snapdeal) while sitting at your home without even moving an inch from your most comfortable position on your couch. Online shopping saves you time, saves you from tiredness and also from bargaining in different outlets. However its a distant dream now to have hassle free offline shopping, trouble starts right from home, just to visit that market you will change your clothes, join the mad traffic on the roads and if you have opted to take your vehicle out with you then you need a different skill set to just get a parking slot before anyone else sneaks in the place you are eyeing on from 30 yards. After that you actually start shopping for your desired product hopping from shop to shop to try out different styles etc and also trying to get the best deal. Online shopping is winner here, but what is that you miss in this is that personal rapport with the shop owners, having street food while shopping, knowing other people choices and meeting new people. This last line includes things which has its own unique experience but still for the rest of the part on this point I would prefer Online shopping over offline. Online 1, Offline 0
  • Touch and Feel: Online portals are sometimes not the best place to identify exact quality of products the size how something will fit, the color in outdoors and indoor lighting, the quality of the fabric of the material and a number of other physical aspects which cannot be judged by carefully taken pictures in online catalog. The online space is just missing this factor and it is a great deal breaker for many including customers looking for electronics appliances. Online 0, Offline 1
  • Variety : Here comes the tricky part, you ought to know the shops for what you want to buy and be sure that the shop has the stock for you when you opt physical stores over Online portals you have to hop from one shop to another to look for your desired items. Whereas in Online shopping its just at your fingertips a few filter here and there give your color, size, price preferences and hundreds of matching products are waiting for your nod to make their place in your wardrobe. You get multiple brands choices, from multiple portals so in this case Online has a clear upper hand over traditional shopping. Online 1, Offline 0
  • Discounts and Coupons: Shop owners are there to convince you about the prices and discounts they are offering it can be a good deal or it can be a trap as well. Most places now a days you will see fixed price board in all shops in the market so you have to have some real good bargaining skills even if the prices are not that fixed. However in Online shopping you don't have to be blessed with some extra skills you just need to be smart enough to look out for available discounts on the portal you are shopping, you get discounts on various types of cards etc. And then you have the coupon websites which can aid you in getting some extra discount all you have to do is search for coupons like Ebay coupons , Jabong gift codes etc to get the codes to get extra discount and apply the same in the shopping website. I find Online portals quite transparent and offers accessible to all hence I prefer Online shopping rather than going over the personal rapport or bargaining skills.Online 1, Offline 0
  • Payment options: Online shopping provides you with variety of options such as payment in installment using credit cards, use credit cards, debit cards or net banking or mobile wallets or even Cash on Delivery where as in offline mode you have to rely on cash or at max you can use credit or debit cards which is also not widely available as of now in India. Paytm is getting physical stores on board on mobile wallets but its just not enough as of today to completely rely upon. Online 1, Offline 0
  • Delivery Time: This one is again a tricky point, physical stores deliver right there in your hands so you see the product before buying , select it , buy it and take it home whereas in Online shopping you see the images you select them and make payments and then you wait for the package to arrive. Things are getting better with one day delivery and other options but still its a lot of time to wait for someone who has just ordered a new dress or a new phone. So in terms of satisfaction over the time lapsed between your purchase and before you can actually use the product Offline scores a big 1 here. Online 0, Offline 1
Conclusion: From above scores Online shopping emerges as winner with scoring 4 points out of 6. However there can be many other aspects which will give Offline shopping a favorable position. Thus Online shopping and Offline shopping compliments each other and can be best chosen based on scenario for example you want to buy a Tshirt just get it online , you want to buy your wedding dress go to the physical stores try as many as you can and get the best one for your requirements.

HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle
Inspired by the Art Deco movement in art and design, the HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle captures the spirit of luxury and modernism: bold, precise, geometric metallic lines – influenced by the same contours as the world-renowned HTC 10 – framed by elegant colors and sophisticated materials in a smartphone that inspires with alluring looks on the outside and powerful technology on the inside. Just as Art Deco evolved the art world’s expectations of elegance and sophistication, the HTC Desire 10 evolves what you can expect from an HTC Desire.

“HTC’s Desire line has always stood for fresh, youthful, and fashionable designs that are focused on delivering a great experience,” said, Mr. Faisal Siddiqui, President- South Asia, HTC. “Today, our Desire line is about to make its biggest leap since the original Desire. Inspired by many of the same innovations that have made the flagship HTC 10 so popular, we’re bringing these innovations to the Desire 10 Lifestyle, making it the most brilliant Desire ever. With a brand new, modern luxurious design inspired by the HTC 10 camera, and including features that outshine even some of the top flagship phones in the industry, the HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle will have you rethinking what to expect from an HTC Desire.”

Bold and iconic new metallic contours
The HTC Desire 10 lifestyle has a stunning look, made to shine with a high-contrast metallic gold contour design that elegantly outlines and defines the smartphone’s soft warm matte finish. This bold, polished outline distinctively wraps the edges of the device, encasing the HTC Desire 10 lifestyle’s 5.5” HD (720p) screen, and contrasting with the eye-catching body in two distinct color themes: Stone Black and Polar White.

Awesome, flagship-level sound
Fans of the world-famous HTC BoomSound Hi-Fi Edition in HTC 10 will love the HTC Desire 10 lifestyle. Featuring High-Res audio support, the HTC Desire 10 lifestyle plays your favorite music, movies, and games with awesome, crystal-clear, high-resolution sound quality through stereo external speakers or to your headphones with a powerful, built-in amplifier that has to be heard to be believed. There is simply no better sounding smartphone in the world. With thundering bass and thrilling treble, the HTC Desire 10 lifestyle will keep your sound rocking with incredible intensity throughout the day.

As unique as you
The HTC Desire 10 lifestyle shares the same unparalleled personalization as HTC 10. Built upon the latest version of HTC Sense, the Desire 10 Lifestyle is fully customizable to your unique personality. HTC Freestyle Layout frees you from an onscreen grid and lets you get creative. Drag icons, stickers and widgets anywhere. Layer them, overlap them, group them and more. You can even link stickers to apps, and get rid of onscreen icons entirely. The home screen is yours – use it your way. Express yourself further with HTC Themes, giving you access to thousands of professional looking themes, each with its own icons, background, sounds and more

Performance matters
The HTC Desire 10 lifestyle offers up to 3GB of RAM and 32GB1 storage space, so no matter which model you choose, you can load up on photos, videos, movies, games and more. And if that’s still not enough, the phone offers SD card support for up to 2TB of expandable memory.

Powering all these photos, games, and more is a blazing quad-core professor in Desire 10 lifestyle, keeping everything running smoothly. Even at these speeds, battery is never an issue, either, with a 2,700mAh battery in Desire 10 lifestyle to keep you snapping photos, surfing the web, and having many hours of fun between charges.

Flipkart's Big Billion Day sale Day 1 sold over half a million products within one hour

In 2012 Google came up with GOSF (Great Online Shopping Festival) with an aim to promote online sales and partnered with ecommerce portals to offer heavy discount for one day. Now you don't have to wait for that one day since October 2014, Flipkart announced its first Big Billion Day sales. The success of the sales can be assessed with the fact that other Big e-comm portals have also started offering huge discounts at same time as Flipkart. 2016 Big Billion Days sale from Flipkart is third edition of the hallmark sales event from the firm and is expected to break all previous records as first hour of the first day surpassed half a million products.

Over 40% of customers who shopped for home appliances availed product exchange. Myntra also had a blockbuster sale on day 1, clocking 3 times more revenue in the first hour compared to 2015 edition of Big Billion Days..

Upon hitting this milestone, Kalyan Krishnamurthy, Head, Category Design Organization, Flipkart said, “The Big Billion Days, like every year, has now set a new landmark in the history of commerce in the country. What makes it special is that the number of units sold in the first 6 hours of sale surpassed the total units sold in a day during the first day of The Big Billion Days in 2015! It’s a matter of immense delight to see this response from our consumers, inspiring us to make it even more special over the course of next 4 days of this sale.”
